Ken Livingstone and Donald’s trip to Stepford

Some interesting developments on the political scene, Donald Trump has been given the Stepford treatment and at home Ken Livingstone has been suspended from the Labour Party. Ken watchers will not  be too surprised by the events precipitating his suspension; let’s just say that Ken has a view of history that rivals that of David Irving for its simplicity and convenience with which it can be applied to bolster his own delusions. I confess I’m not exactly sure what his most recent outburst was, something along the lines of: Hitler was a Zionist, I imagine but in the light of some prior events it’s not too difficult to infer a certain—consistency in his views.  I know this might come as a surprise to some, but no, Adolf wasn’t a Zionist, not even close, his party was approached on at least one occasion by, it has to said, some rather extreme Zionists but you know, that’s about the extent of his contact with the movement.

Meanwhile Donald the Trump has been converted to the cause and is ready to bomb the Syrians at every available opportunity, an interesting but not altogether unexpected development. It does, however, remain a mistake because if those allies whose goal’s prompted the Syrian adventure should realise their ambitions there, it would be catastrophic for US interest in the region, I mean oil priced in Renmimbi kind of catastrophic.
